To the heroes of the Warsaw Uprising
Today, commemorative events marking the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising are being held all over Poland. The main commemorations are taking place in the capital, but it is in many places around the country where Poles are paying tribute to the insurgents.
On this day, representatives of the CMJW, together with those who gathered, according to custom at 11:00 a.m., in front of the Monument to the Warsaw Insurgents - Prisoners-Of-War of Stalag 344 Lamsdorf, laid flowers and lit candles in front of the stone symbol, thus commemorating the heroic struggle of Poles during the uprising in the capital. Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, Director of the Museum, reminded the people gathered there about the idea of these meetings.
Lamsdorf is in fact a place closely connected with the events of 1944, as it was there, where after the fall of the uprising were held the largest group of those fighting for Warsaw. In the first days of October, around six thousand prisoners-of-war - not only soldiers, but also civilians, including women and children - were taken by rail to Stalag 344.
In Opole, on the other hand, at 5:00 p.m. - the 'W' hour - at the Monument to the Home Army, after a solemn holy mass, official ceremonies related to the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising began. They were attended by the deputy director of the CMJW, Dr. Renata Kobylarz-Buła. During the event, a roll call of remembrance was read, speeches were made, and a rifle volley was fired.
Workers of the Museum were also present in the Opole media, which joined in the anniversary commemorations.
