The prologue of ‘We were here’ radio drama is available to watch online now

The work on one of the several demanding tasks we took on ourselves within the framework of the project ‘Reverberations 1944. From Warsaw to Lamsdorf’ has come to an end. It was performed with the participation of a large number of experts from the cultural sector - from scriptwriter and director Andrzej Celiński, through actors from the Silesian and Kraków stages, to sound engineers and other post-production persons. The whole process was supervised by Alicja Schatton-Lubos's VidiFilm company.

The title of this radio drama is a direct reference to the art and social action ‘They were here’, which was one of the elements of the project ‘Reverberations 1944…’ conducted this year. There is also a similarity in the plot, which mainly takes place on a train heading to Lamsdorf/Łambinowice (the script is spread between two time plans). This is not the end of the intended parallels - the radio drama makes use of fragments of a concert composed by Szymon Chyliński and performed on 6 October this year in the Łambinowice church on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the arrival of the first transport of Warsaw insurgents at Stalag 344 Lamsdorf.

In addition to the prologue - available on the Museum's website and on Spotify - we have prepared four episodes continuing the story of Wirta and her friends from the Warsaw Uprising. Yes, ‘Wirta’, because this was the code name adopted by Barbara Lewandowska, a 15-year-old nurse from the ‘Barry’ unit, whose accounts of the forced journey to Lamsdorf became the basis for the script of the radio drama in the part concerning the past.

The cast of the first part (prologue) of the radio drama:
Wirta: Elżbieta Karkoszka
Granddaughter Aga: Aleksandra Przybył
young Wirta: Magda Grąziowska
The Panterka uniform-clad girl: Karolina Burek-Piasny
General Bór-Komorowski: Zbigniew Wróbel
Reader on the train: Katarzyna Gierszewska-Widota

Finally, an important technical note: the dialogue and extensive audio effects were created as binaural recording, using a technique known as dummy head recording. In practice, thanks to the spatial quality of the studio the sounds coming from various directions give the listener a more realistic impression of accompanying the actors and the impression of being together with them.

We would like to invite you to listen to the first 10-minute episode of the drama. It is available on our website and on Spotify.

The activity, carried out as part of the project, was financed from funds of the National Reconstruction and Resilience Plan - investment A2.5.1. ‘Programme to support the activities of entities from the cultural and creative industries sector to stimulate their development’, and the Self-government of the Opole Province.
