The outcome of the restoration work on Monument to the Victims of the First World War

The conversation works at the Old POW in Łambinowice have been completed. One of the monuments there, in the shape of a mound of field stones topped with a wooden Latin cross, underwent a renovation. The monument is a memento of the Great War dedicated to its victims.

The work was conducted by Mariusz Zając’s ZAJMART company, and included: uncovering the original layer of boulders, strengthening the structure of the mound, micro-cement injection to reduce microcracks and cracks, cleaning the surface of the stones with hot pressurised steam, hydrophobic impregnation, and finally installing plaque with an inscription. In addition, the wooden cross was renovated. All these measures were taken to prevent the monument from further ageing and restoring it as faithfully as possible to its original appearance - in accordance with the archival photographic documentation.

The task was funded by the Institute of National Remembrance, with the Conservator of Monuments of Opole Province who oversaw the works. We also provided access to archival photographic material.
