The Lubiński family’s POW memorabilia

A collection of memorabilia related to the captivity of Second Lieutenant Andrzej Lubiński, a participant in the Polish Defensive War of 1939 and prisoner-of-war at the oflags V C Colditz, II A Prenzlau, II E Neubrandenburg and II D Gross Born, have been added to the Museum's collection.

This valuable treasure trove was donated by the second lieutenant's son, Marek Lubiński from Warsaw. It consists of some very interesting objects that are true rarities for every museum worker. Attention is drawn above all to a complete master’s thesis. It subject - Research on the intelligence of school children. Application of methods and practical benefits - was inspired by 2nd Lt. Lubiński's educational background - before the war he had worked as a teacher. The uniqueness of the thesis consists in being entirely written in captivity, but still it is extremely carefully prepared  both scientifically and aesthetically (beautiful calligraphy!).

Apart from the thesis, our collection includes: pre-war photographs and from the period of his captivity, postcards from oflag post offices at II E and II D camps, as well as graphics, the most outstanding of which is a portrait of the prisoner's mother, Zenaida (the donor's mother), made in pencil on the basis of a photograph by another prisoner, Second Lieutenant Józef Szepietowski. In addition, it consists of documents, a pocket calendar with notes written down in it and items related to participation in camp courses, including records of the finals at the Higher Scientific Course and the Pedagogical and Social Studies.

Our warmest thanks to the donor!
