Tadeusz Horoszkiewicz was the protagonist of "Faces of Opole" – report
On 27 November, we met again at the Museum’s Opole seat to attend another meeting of the ‘Faces of Opole’ series. This time, the figure of Tadeusz Horoszkiewicz - a man who was committed to the development of journalism in the region, as well as the Museum - was the subject of the meeting.
One of the examples of our collaboration is an educational film that was made in the 1980s to introduce viewers to the Museum and the Site of Remembrance, produced together with Ryszard Łabus, who was one of the hosts of the meeting that evoked memories of old days. In addition to the Opole-based cameraman and long-time friend of Tadeusz Horoszkiewicz, the meeting was chaired by Prof. Janina Hajduk-Nijakowska and Prof. Bogusław Nierenberg, as well as by the protagonist's wife, Barbara Horoszkiewicz. The guests were welcomed by Dr. Renata Kobylarz-Buła, Deputy Director of the Museum.
There were numerous representatives of the Opole journalism community in attendance, including Wojciech Kasprzyk, director of TVP3 Opole, which held the media patronage of the event. Among the attendees were doyens, people actively working in the media, as well as a group of journalism students with a tutor who had studied under Tadeusz Horoszkiewicz.
The attendees had the opportunity to be recounted the rich and full of passion career path of the editor Horoszkiewicz. From lighting assistant in television, through radio journalist to editor-in-chief of the legendary ‘Studio pod Bukiem’ programme. We should add that the relaxing atmosphere of the meeting was also conducive to tell revealing witty stories. The anecdotes from Tadeusz Horoszkiewicz's journalistic past helped, even those who did not know him personally, to build a picture of a professional, kind-hearted colleague, family man and hunting enthusiast, as well as a warm-hearted owner of the dachshund Myszek, a companion on outings to the forest.
During the meeting, excerpts from the archives on which Tadeusz Horoszkiewicz worked were screened. There was also time for a very lively discussion, as several people took the floor. Finally, it is worth emphasising that the meeting also provided an opportunity to reflect on the role of journalism in society. After all, the life of Tadeusz Horoszkiewicz reminded us how important it is for the media to be a place where different people and divers narratives can meet and where, instead of fighting fiercely for the best journalistic material, people can support each other and even be friends.
