"On the trail of Memory". Lecture by Dr. Piotr Stanek at the Kluczbork Museum
This Saturday (7 September) an even called On the trail of Memory as part of the European Heritage Days’ theme "Routes, Networks and Connections" will take place in Kluczbork, during which Dr. Piotr Stanek, head of the CMJW’s Research Department, will deliver a lecture.
Dr. Piotr Stanek's lecture will be on the history of Oflag VIII A, Ilag VIII/Z Kreuzburg (Kluczbork) and Stalag Luft 7 Bankau (Bąków). During the talk, the audience will first learn more about the place of interment of Polish and French officers and civilians - mainly British - located in the huge classicist building of the former poorhouse in Kluczbork. After that, they will find out about the history of the prisoner-of-war camp located in what is now Bąków that was established to hold mainly British airmen from the Royal Air Force. It is worth mentioning that Oflag VIII A Kreuzburg - the first officers' camp in Silesia established on 14 December 1939 - was under the administrative control of the POW camp in Lamsdorf (now Łambinowice, Poland).
The meeting will begin at 12.30 in the Jan Dzierżon Museum in Kluczbork. Afterwards, at 1.30, the attendees will go the former Poorhouse, where the camp was located, and then at 2.00, by bike, to the site of the former camp for airmen in Bąków.
You are cordially invited to take part in the event!
