The first ‘Congress on Prisoners-of-War Memorial Sites’

The already announced last autumn event, whose full name is ‘Congress on Prisoners-of-War Memorial Sites: Heritage and Strategies for the Future’, is the result of the conversion of a nationwide academic conference regularly organised by the Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War.

The congress is organised by: ‘League of POW Remembrance’, its leader, that is the Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War, and the Centre for Research on the Economics of Memorial Sites at SWPS University. It will take place on 15 November this year at the SWPS University premises in Warsaw, from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. You can also participate in it online. Regardless of the way of participation, please register for the congress in advance by filling in the form available here: https://tiny.pl/qb-jx8cr.

The idea of the Congress and the goals of the League itself come together – they are to develop cooperation between the custodians of POW memorials and a wide range of stakeholders from Poland and abroad. The programme will include speeches by the League members and independent experts working in fields such as management, education, AI technology or the military. Indeed, the meeting will have an international character - guests from, among others, the USA and Greece have confirmed their participation, which is why a simultaneous translation (in Polish and English) will be provided. Individual speeches will be followed by a panel and plenary debate.

You are welcome to join us in person or online!

The activity, carried out as part of the project, was financed from funds of the National Reconstruction and Resilience Plan - investment A2.5.1. ‘Programme to support the activities of entities from the cultural and creative industries sector to stimulate their development’, and the Self-government of the Opole Province.
