Meeting of the Council for Protection of the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice
Last Tuesday (10 September), the annual meeting of the Council for Protection of the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice was held at the Museum seat in Łambinowice. Its members summarised the undertakings carried out in the period since the last meeting (2023, 12 July), as well as outlined plans for the coming months and discussed important issues.
Let us remind that the Council has been in work for more than 10 years. As stated in the letter of intent, its main objective is to continue to protect, safeguard and revitalise the Site of Remembrance in the context of its priceless cultural heritage.
The Tuesday meeting was opened by Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, Director of the CMJW, who welcomed all participants, as well as a new member of the Council, Magdalena Erdman, a representative of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, and Zbigniew Bomersbach, who took up the post as the Conservator of Monuments of Opole Province, and Daniel Palimąka, the Starosta of the Nysa District. Then, together with the head of the Department of Collections and Conservation, Elżbieta Góra, they reported on the progress of work at the Site of Remembrance between July 2023 and August 2024.
The main item on the agenda for the meeting was the discussion of current works and needs. Also discussed in the context of the Site of Remembrance was the new spatial development plan for the Community, which is currently being processed by the Łambinowice Community Office. The talks on the scope and sequence of works that should be performed in the near future at the Site of Remembrance and sources of their funding, were concluded by a visit to the Old POWs Cemetery in Łambinowice, where a meeting with the archaeologists carrying out research work there in the so-called Italian quarters took place, as well as to the Soviet POWs Cemetery.
