Meeting of the Association of Friends of the CMJW

During the Annual General Meeting of 28th May 2024, members of the Association of Friends of the CMJW who met at the Museum’s seat in Opole, reviewed, among other things, the organisation's activities in the past year and its plans for the coming year.

The most importing item on the agenda was an acknowledgment of the Association's supportive role in the field of raising funds for important educational and popularisation activities carried out by the Museum. In 2023 the Board of the organisation subsidised competitions for children and young people, of which the Association is a co-organiser: the 30th edition of the POWs Poetry Recitation Competition ‘Let's not lose our memory’, and the 15th edition of the national competition for historical project ‘Before It's Not Too Late’. A total of PLN 4,500 was allocated for prizes for the winners.

In addition, the Association is also efficient in terms of keeping communication with the regular and potential sponsors, as evidenced, for example, by the successful application for funds to the Polish Gas Company, which resulted in PLN 4,000 for prizes and honoraria in the recitation competition and refreshments for participants in the finals. The Association's involvement in the ‘Give me a Memory’ campaign should also be regarded as successful in securing financial support - in the past reporting period, the action included the restoration of four grave crosses (a fifth one is undergoing conservation treatment now), the renovation of which was subsidised by a total of PLN 1,400 coming from five donors.

It should also be mentioned that in order to promote the dissemination of the subject of POWs, the Association co-organised 9 events as part of the ‘Łambinowice Museum Meetings’ series and provided assistance in the preparation of the ‘Prayer of Peace’ concert performed on the 84th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War in the St. Mary Magdalene Church in Łambinowice, by arranging coach transport for the attendees of the event.

Further support for the Museum on an educational and popularisation level is planned, including the implementation of an educational project this autumn. And also: helping our museum workers to take care of the collections, e.g. by helping them to carry out conservation treatments, as well as taking care of the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice jointly with the Łambinowice Community and the Museum.
