Łambinowice Museum Meetings (5 December) – invitation

The last item on this year’s calendar of 'Łambinowice Museum Meetings' will be devoted to a value that is considered to be an especially longed-for and giving meaning to human existence – love. Obviously, the one that is found in a specific historical perspective, more precisely – in the environment of prisoner-of-war camps during World War II.

Looking at love relationships through the prism of captivity is a tribute to the study and popularisation of individual fates of prisoners-of-war, as well as a form of appreciation of the issues that may not be of primary importance for historians, but which are important for understanding what the everyday life of people entangled in the chaos of war was like, what experiences and emotions they experienced and how they influenced their post-war lives.

The lecture I love You, see you… Love in the time of captivity will be given by PhDs Anna Czerner and Kamil Weber from the Museum’s Research Department. They will bring us closer to the particulars of a temporary exhibition in the process of being made, devoted to this rarely undertaken subject. Thus, there will be discussed questions that are both typical and model of romantic relationships which prevailed in the end despite several years of separation – but also examples of more complex relationships, sometimes even tragic in their finale – such as those established by correspondence, already during the period of captivity, by people who had not known each other before.

The meeting will take place on 5 December at 5 p.m. at the Museum building in Łambinowice. You are cordially invited!
