Jubilee of the Silesian Institute

It has already been 90 years! This beautiful, round number of years refers to the activities of one of the most important research and cultural institutions in the Opole region, although not only - the influence of the Institute is much wider.

On 16-17 May, the institution celebrated its jubilee with a large group of people: those who have contributed to its development, former and present employees, scholars and colleagues from other institutions. Our Museum was represented on two consecutive days of the celebrations by its two directors, Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska and Dr. Renata Kobylarz-Buła.

The celebration enjoyed the patronage of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. Its programme provided the opportunity to honour those who distinguished themselves in the field of research. The Jan and Wojciech Wawrzynek Award for the best master’s thesis on Silesia went to Mikołaj Chmieliński from the University of Warsaw, while distinctions were given to Sylwia Kalemba from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and Katarzyna Hetmańczyk from the Jagiellonian University.

Interesting from the perspective of the mission of our institution, were certainly the parallel debates entitled 'From Regional Heritage to Global Narratives. Didactic challenges and directions of reforms of historical education in Poland'. This is because the subject strongly resonates with this year's message of the educational session organised by the Museum.

Moreover, the celebration gave an opportunity to award the Badges of Honour "For Merit for the Opole Voivodeship" – the recipients were Prof. Stanisława Sochacka and Prof. Michał Lis.

Our sincere congratulations and best wishes for many more years of satisfying research and educational work!
