One history, two perspectives? A scientific conference in Kleinenbremen
Since yesterday, there has been held an international conference entitled One history, two perspectives? in the German town of Kleinenbremen. It is attended by representatives of the CMJW: Director Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, Deputy Director Dr. Renata Kobylarz-Buła and Dr. Piotr Stanek, Head of the Research Department.
The ongoing event is part of the cooperation between the Kleinenbremen Mine and Museum, the Memorial and Documentation Site at KZ Porta Westfalica, the Stalag 326 (VI K) Senne Memorial and the Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War.
The subject of the meeting, and further Polish-German cooperation, focuses on the fate of Polish soldiers taken prisoner by the Germans during the Second World War. After leaving the POW camps, many of them were compulsory employed in various sectors of the German economy, including agriculture. More than a thousand Polish prisoners-of-war were interned at Stalag 326 (VI K) Senne and then sent to various working parties. In Kleinenbremen, where the conference is currently being held, around 500 Polish POWs were forced to work in the building of the arms industry in underground complexes.
The meeting in Kleinenbremen marks the inauguration of the cooperation.
