Invitation to commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Stalag 344 Lamsdorf
The anniversary of the liberation of Stalag 344 Lamsdorf is an event established by long tradition, permanently embedded in the local, but not only, calendar. It is held in front of the Monument to the Martyrdom of Prisoners-of-War on 17 March. Invariably the event is organised with great commitment, however, this year the commemorations have a special dimension, as it is the 80th anniversary, which additionally coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Museum’s establishment.
This year's commemorations are organised by the Museum and the Łambinowice Commune, under the honorary patronage of Minister of Culture and National Heritage Hanna Wróblewska, the Opole Governor Monika Jurek and the Marshal of the Opole Voivodeship Szymon Ogłaza. The programme will provide moments for reflection and collective gestures of remembrance: speeches, prayers or a gun salute. The official part will be concluded with, important for many, ceremonial laying of flowers and lighting of candles at the Memorial.
The ceremony at the Site of Remembrance will commence at 12.00 p.m. Those wishing to use our transport from Opole will meet at 11.00 a.m., at the car park in front of the ‘Toropol’ on Barlickiego Street. There are still places available on the coach – booking will be taken until 14 March. By this date, we would also like to ask you to declare your wish to lay of flowers during the official ceremony.
