Invitation to “A Moving Testimony. The Archive of Dr. Jan Robel” meeting

On the 85th anniversary of the Soviet Union's aggression against Poland, we would like to invite you to a meeting dedicated to an exceptional man - Dr. Jan Robel - his work, and the team led by him. The presentation will be given by Ewa Kowalska and Katarzyna Ziębik from the Institute of National Remembrance.

The key theme of the meeting will be the archive containing materials examined by a team of the Institute of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Science in Kraków, and retrieved in 1943 from the graves of Polish prisoners-of-war – the victims of the Katyn massacre. Although initially there were made four copies of the report, only two survived the war period. And this was thanks, among other things, to the foresight and determination of Dr. Jan Robel.

The saved materials have been crucial to the IPN publication When Silent Graves Speak Up... The Archive of Dr. Jan Zygmunt Robel. It is an over 1000-page collection, which is a complete compilation of them. Together with the Museum, the meeting is organised by: the Opole Branch of the Sybiraks' Association, the Katyń Family Association in Opole and the Opole Education Centre.

The event will take place at the Opole seat of the CMJW at 3 Minorytów Street on 17 September. It will begin at 1.30 p.m. Admission is free.

We encourage you to attend the meeting!
