Debate of the 'Museums of Tomorrow 2' series in Toruń

Museum professionals and people of the realm of culture from all over Poland met once again to discuss the issue of development of museums. This year's hosts and initiators of the second edition of the 'Museums of Tomorrow 2' series were: the Association of Polish Museum Workers (SMP – Stowarzyszenie Polskich Muzealników) and the District Museum in Toruń.

The main theme of the meeting, "Museums and the tourism industry. Cooperation, competition or passivity?", encompassed some of the issues modern museums need to deal with now. The invited guests were discussing, among other things, the role of institutions in the management of museum property, and whether it can be used for tourist-orientated purposes, as well as how to adapt exhibitions to the needs of today's visitors in the context of generational changes and tourism marketing.

The Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War was represented by its director, Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, who is also the Vice-President of the Association of Polish Museum Workers. The debate was part of the ongoing SMP meeting on 20-21 June and had a hybrid format – it tool place both in the museum building and online.
