Conferences in May

On 22-24 May 2024, two important, though very different from each other, conferences took place in Wrocław and Warsaw, both of which were attended by representatives of our institution.

On 22 May Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, Museum Director, went to Wroclaw to participate in a conference on challenges faced by institutions listed on the State Register of Museums. The debated was initiated by Dr. Paulina Florjanowicz, director of the National Institute of Museums, and Paweł Jaskanis,  director of the Museum of King John III's Palace at Wilanów, who is also the chairman of the Commission of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage for the State Register of Museums.

The main question covered by the speakers was securing the functioning of museum institutions in a situation of dangers and crises deriving from the current geopolitical situation. The conference was held within the walls of the Academy of Fine Arts, after which the participants went to the Museum of Architecture to attend the evening Gala of the Laureates of the 44th edition of the Sybilla 2023 Competition for the Museum Event of the Year.

Dr. Piotr Stanek, head of the CMJW’s Research Department, participated at a Polish-German academic conference on reactions to the Uprising of August 1944 entitled ‘The Third Reich’s policy on the Warsaw Uprising’. Our museum worker gave a talk about ‘The German camp apparatus’s policy towards the Warsaw Uprising insurgents and civilians deported from Warsaw’ during one of the Friday sessions on German propaganda.

The conference was accompanied by the presentation of a publication entitled ‘Wehrmacht Headquarters Warsaw and Korpsgruppe von dem Bach. Part 1: 8 March - 7 August 1944’ in a scholarly study by Norbert Bączyk, Paweł Brudek, Andrzej Chmielarz and Grzegorz Jasiński. It is a joint initiative of the Polish partners (the Warsaw Rising Museum and the Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression) and the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation.
