Conference One history, two perspectives? - announcement

The final preparations for the scientific conference organised by the Museum in cooperation with the German partners - Stalag 326 (VI K) Senne Memorial, the Memorial and Documentation Site at KZ Porta Westfalica, and the Kleinenbremen Mine and Museum - are underway.

The conference, scheduled for 29-30 August 2024, will take place in Kleinenbremen with the aim to bring together institutions and individual researchers dealing with the Polish and German collective memory related to the Second World War. In particular, the conference will be focused on the fate of soldiers detained in German prisoner-of-war camps and either forced to work for the Third Reich or - as was often the case - stripped of their POW status and sent to slave labour, formally as civilian forced labourers.

During the two conference days, speeches will be given by guests from Poland and Germany, who represent different backgrounds. The programme is reach, and in addition to the main part consisting of lectures and discussion panels, it includes a visit to the mine in Kleinenbremen - a place that is more than just a tourist destination, as it was there where about half a thousand Polish prisoners-of-war were forced to transport elements of the arms industry to underground adits.

Anyone interested in the subject of the conference is welcome to attend directly. The meeting is open to the public. Registration and the payment of a small conference fee are the only requirements. The full programme of the events and an online registration form to be completed are here: https://stalag326.de/29-30-08-2024-tagung/.
