Archives Week

From 11 to 14 June 2024 the Museum has an unusual offer for visitors wishing to explore materials that generally remain safely hidden in the archives.

The cause of organising the event is International Archives Day, celebrated on 9 June.  Since our Museum possesses considerable archival collections and, following renovation works performed a few years ago, also modern storage facilities at its disposal, so all this provides an opportunity to show visitors what it is like to work with such valuable stuff, for example, prisoner-of-war transport lists, under what conditions they are deposited or what information can be expertly derived from them.

Individuals are welcome to visit us from Tuesday to Friday at 1 p.m. or 2 p.m. As part of the visit, we will not only take a peek at the archive or show our visitors around the exhibitions but also give many useful tips to those willing to improve their skills, for example, in reconstructing the wartime fate of their loved ones. We will also present modern conservation techniques to preserve old documents and methods currently used to digitise the content they contain.

There is a similar programme for organised groups - bear in mind that groups should consist of at least 6 people - which are welcome to join us from 8 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. In addition, we have interesting workshops on archive related topics for them.

Participation in the Archives Week is free of charge but advance booking is required. It is taken by Iwona Cichoń-Halot at or tel: 774 537 872.

You are welcome to visit our archive!
