Organizing contests has had a long tradition and has occupied a particular position in the activity of the Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War. They are addressed to both communities of the former POWs and children, youth and teachers. Some of them take place on the regular and systematic basis; others are one-time events. The attractive form of the contests allows realization of educational goals accepted in the program “Pedagogy of Remembrance”. This form of popularization of the POW subject matter makes participants realize what a war conflict is. It raises reflections, encourages to make a creative effort and brings satisfaction from taking part in a competition. It also allows enriching the museum collection with memoires and accounts of captivity or with photographic documentation, as well as art works and recordings which are presented later on in exhibitions.
